My Latest Personal Projects

These are just the projects/tools I've created myself for fun - not my web dev portfolio.
simpulsnip

simpulsnip

In the day to day life of using a computer, especially as a geek that loves efficiency I found the need for a simple place to update and keep commonly used bits of code and snippets of HTML/text/data. There were a few options out there already, but I found none that had a truly API like control. I built simpulsnip to use a JSON based dataset which can be hooked up easily to any kind of system (PHP / node / C etc). Along with building a simple interface that feeds off of this JSON file and outputs it all to HTML, coupled with some jQuery that makes it easy to highlight and copy the relevant text/code.

lifeclocker

lifeclocker

Had a pretty morbid idea for displaying how your whole life would look if it was condensed down to a 12 hour clockface. Using jQuery and basic SASS.

fitnup

fitnup

Over the last couple of years I've released how the negative affects that using a computer for 10+ hours a day along with a sedentary lifestyle will impact life quality. That's why I made the decision to kickstart a healthy lifestyle, lose 2+ stone and become generally fitter/healthier, running/exercising/cycling/gym-ing 3+ times a week and eating healthily. Since I made this change I constantly get people asking me for my "diet" and my training schedule, for this reason I created fitnup to begin to document and share my gained knowledge. The aim of fitnup is share my actual experience and guidance that isn't just some get-fit-quick scheme, simple, cold hard facts and advice that really works.

simpul

simpul

Having created 100+ sites within the last 10 years I very often found myself repeating the exact same setup processes. Creating header.php files, css/js folders etc and the same basic html and css for pretty much all projects. So over the last few years I've started curating all of these processes into one easily duplicate-able template that is generally abstract enough to use out of the box without too much editing and a great starter template for any basic PHP/HTML website that also utilises SASS. It's featured in this web design video tutorial

simpulSass

simpulSass

SASS is a great tool/language to write coherent and in-depth CSS that is easily maintained, objectified and gives incredible extra functionality. However, setting up SASS to quickly compile usually involves some terminal coding or extra setup or paid software. I created simpulsass as a very easy drag-n-drop method to use a /scss/ folder and watch for changes to the .scss files and output them automatically to the /css/ folder. In line with my theme of creating "simpul" projects that aim to simplify processes just enough, leaving enough room for customisation, yet still remaining easy to setup and use..

301site

301site

There's multiple ways to 301 a site nowadays, however there seems far too much variation in the quality of code and advice. 301site I created to simplify this process and bring the basic advise and commonly used 301 codes together in one domain

nqCMS

nqCMS

nqCMS is a simple flat content-agnostic content management system. It uses a very straight forward and quick form of data storage that negates the need for any databases. It can be used for any type of recursively similar data types, such as; blogs, listing similar items (DVD collections.. any type of collection really). My focus for nqCMS was for utter simplicity for the end user, very easy to read documentation, installation and setup, along with ease of personalisation.

cmprDeal

cmprDeal

How many times have you been in a supermarket and seen 2 very similar deals or competitively priced products. I often have found this, is it better to get the 2 for £3 deal, or the 3 for £2 deal, when the products differ in size (ml/weight etc). I built the cmprdeal online tool as a way of making it clear which one is the cheapest. By entering the total gross weight you're purchasing in each deal vs the price it will tell you the best option.

TrulyCode is my personal blog and tutorial center for all things related to web design, development and niche technologies. Particularly focusing on CSS3/HTML5/jQuery/PHP code 'bytes', which are re-usable blocks of code for anyone to easily use in the projects. Anything I find useful in my day-to-day life as an IT / Web professional gets shared here pretty much that I think will help others.
